Do you desire fuller, perkier breasts? If so, you are not alone. Cosmetic breast surgery is one of the most commonly performed surgeries in the country. In fact, more than 380,000 women had their breasts augmented or lifted in 2013, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
If you are unhappy with your natural breast size, shape or position, Dr. Sandra Margoles can help. She offers a range of procedures to help you achieve your ideal breast appearance, including breast augmentation and breast lift.
Let’s look at both procedures and why they are sometimes combined for better overall results.
Breast augmentation improves the size and fullness of the breasts with saline or silicone implants. Implants come in either round or teardrop shapes and can be filled to different capacities. They are placed in front of or behind the chest muscle through small incisions on the breast or in the armpit.
In addition to implants, Dr. Margoles also offers breast augmentation with fat grafting. This technique involves removing surplus fat from another area of the body (e.g., abdomen) and injecting it into the breasts to add shape and fullness. Dr. Margoles recommends breast augmentation with fat grafting for women who want a natural and minimally invasive alternative to implants, as well as slimming and contouring in the donor area of the body.
Breast lift is performed to elevate the breasts to a more youthful position on the chest wall. Dr. Margoles will carefully lift the underlying structures of the breast and recreate the breast mound higher on the chest. She will also remove excess skin and tighten the remaining skin for a perkier breast profile.
Combination Breast Augmentation-Lift
Although breast augmentation and breast lift are both excellent procedures, there may be limitations to performing each of them independently. Placing breast implants will not improve the position of sagging breasts or address downward-facing nipples. Breast lift will not improve the size of small breasts or fill out the top portion of the breast to create cleavage.
If you would like bigger, rounder breasts that sit higher on your chest, Dr. Margoles recommends combining breast augmentation with lift. Performing the procedures in tandem will improve the size, shape and position, in a single operation.
Dr. Margoles will reshape the breast mound higher on the chest and move the nipple/areola higher on the breast. She will remove excess skin and tighten the remaining skin. She will then place saline or silicone implants.
After surgery, the entire bust will look larger, and the breasts and nipple will sit above the crease of the breast.
There are several benefits to combining procedures into a single operation — for example, it is safer to undergo one round of anesthesia, and it is preferable to have one surgical recovery period instead of two.
