Mommy Makeover Surgery Details
Dr. Margoles will customize your mommy makeover to address your individual needs and ideal cosmetic outcomes which she will discuss in detail during your consultation. Among the procedures offered are breast implants and breast lift with implants to augment breasts that have lost volume or are sagging. Tummy tuck surgery is a very popular procedure that repairs separated muscles, and removes loose, saggy skin leaving you with a firmer, slimmer stomach. If love handles, or stubborn areas of excess fat in the thighs, back, or buttocks aren’t responding to diet and exercise, liposuction will remove the fat and smooth the skin. Dr. Margoles will show you a gallery of before and after procedure photos to give you a clear understanding of what options exist.
Once you and Dr. Margoles decide which procedures will get you back to feeling yourself, she will make a recommendation about either having all of the procedures done on the same day, or scheduling the procedures over a prescribed amount of time. Either way, she will have you looking and feeling your best quickly and easily.

Mommy Makeover Aftercare & Recovery
You will be in the recovery room for 1 hour following surgery, after which you will be sent home. All patients must have a responsible adult with them to return home. It is also strongly advised that a responsible adult stay the night with you.
After surgery, Dr. Margoles will apply bandages and compression garments to minimize any swelling. You may have mild bruising and soreness for a few weeks, but these side effects are only temporary. Dr. Margoles can prescribe pain medication to soothe any discomfort.
You will need to rest as much as possible in the days immediately following your Mommy Makeover. Since you won’t be able to pick up your children, bend, lift or strain, for up to two weeks, you may need to ask a family member or friend to help with taking care of your kids, especially if they are young.
Dr. Margoles will give you detailed pre- and post- operative instructions including any medications you may need, and information about scheduling your follow-up visits. It is critical to follow all of her instructions in order to minimize your risk of complications and speed up your recovery. She will advise when it is safe to return to work and your normal activities.

Mommy Makeover FAQ
Why do women choose mommy makeover?
Most women can expect to gain 25 to 35 pounds when pregnant. Much of this added weight is fat that accumulates in the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks and breasts. As the stomach expands during the nine months of gestation, abdominal muscles stretch and may even separate. This loss of integrity in the abdominal wall creates a bulge or “pooch” that weight loss alone cannot eliminate.
Meanwhile, the skin gives way to accommodate the expanding abdomen, breaking down collagen and creating stretch marks. Once your baby has been delivered, your body will begin to lose much of the weight you gained, but fat will often stubbornly linger in areas that were once trim and fit. Rapid weight loss in the breasts may actually lead to sagging or an unwanted “pancake” look.
Genetics and to some degree lifestyle will largely determine whether you return quickly to your pre-baby profile, or need some help in reclaiming the shape you remember. Using a variety of surgical techniques, mommy makeover targets the weakened or separated abdominal muscles, sagging breasts and folds of skin that arrived along with your baby.
What procedures are included?
Mommy makeover is a flexible, customized suite of surgeries. Moms select procedures based on their own post-pregnancy experience, their expectations and the ideal body shape they envisage. Mommy makeovers typically include two or more of these body contouring procedures:
- Liposuction, to target specific areas of stubborn fat
- Tummy tuck, to repair the abdominal wall and remove excess folds of skin
- Breast lift, to reclaim the natural profile and firmness to breasts
- Breast augmentation with implants, to restore volume lost through pregnancy and nursing
Many women like to add a few extras to their mommy makeover for an even more dramatic transformation. For example, laser skin treatments and chemical peels revitalize the complexion, and dermal fillers can erase fine lines and add volume to lips.
How soon after birth should I consider mommy makeover?
Experienced Greenwich, Connecticut plastic surgeon Dr. Sandra Margoles recommends that you wait at least six months after childbirth before making any final decisions. At that point you will know how much of the weight gain during pregnancy was temporary, and which areas are likely to need a surgical solution.
By contrast, shifting attitudes among some new moms (and their doctors) have recently given rise to a surgical trend involving a procedure known as “C-tuck.” This is when tummy tuck is performed right after a Caesarean birth, providing an instant makeover for mom. This double surgery is inadvisable for a number of reasons, primarily because the body needs time to recover from the stress of pregnancy and to heal. In addition, the stretching of the abdomen and uterus can make it difficult for a surgeon to determine the extent of the tightening you will need. New moms invariably feel weak from labor, and C-tuck simply adds to that exhaustion.
