My outer thighs have always been disproportionately large despite diet and exercise. I’m 5’3″, 135 lbs (after finally losing all the weight gained during pregnancies!) I had 2.5L total removed from the outer thigh area. Still very early days yet, but so far am pleased with the results. Looking forward to finally fitting into my clothes properly! I wish I had this Lipo done years ago!

Are You A Candidate For Liposuction?

Men and women who desire a slimmer physique, are in good health and have realistic expectations for the outcome of their surgery are the best candidates for liposuction. It is also important for patients to have adequate skin elasticity, so the skin will hug the newly contoured body after liposuction.

It’s important to note that Liposuction is not intended to be used as a weight loss tool. Ideal candidates should be relatively fit and near their target weight.

I went to Sandra for Liposuction on my stomach and a Breast Augmentation. She did a fantastic job. Minimal scarring and my breasts came out better than expected and they look so real not too high up just right! When I first got them, I was leaking bad … Sandra came into the office on her day off just to check me and make sure everything was ok. The day of my surgery I was so nervous, Sandra was so calming and made me nice and relaxed. I would definitely not only recommend her but go back to her if I need any other cosmetic surgery!

Liposuction Surgery Details

The length of your liposuction surgery will depend on which procedure you choose, and whether or not you are combining different procedures. Dr. Margoles begins her traditional liposuction procedure by making small, inconspicuous incisions around the treatment area. She then uses a specialized surgical tool to break up and suction fatty tissue from your body. The incisions are then sutured closed.

You will be in the recovery room for 1 hour following surgery, after which you will be sent home. All patients must have a responsible adult with them to return home. It is also strongly advised that a responsible adult stay the night with you.

Liposuction Aftercare & Recovery

With traditional liposuction, recovery times will vary depending on your procedure. Typically patients are able to move around immediately following surgery and may expect to return to work within 3-5 days.

Some discomfort is normal and can be managed with prescription medication. You can resume normal activities almost immediately following your surgery and you will be able to see the full benefits of your procedure over the next 2-3 weeks.
You will receive detailed post-surgery care instructions and Dr. Margoles and her staff will be available to answer any questions or concerns. It is important to follow Dr. Margoles’ instructions carefully to ensure the best results and easiest recovery.

Benefits of SmartLipo

SmartLipo (laser liposuction) is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional liposuction that enables Dr. Margoles to deliver more targeted contouring and skin tightening. The revolutionary technology and the technique make it a safer option with less post-operative downtime. SmartLipo allows the doctor to pinpoint stubborn fat using a special surgical device that delivers thermal energy to the targeted fat cells. The laser energy heats up and liquefies the fat, making it easier to remove from the body. As it works, the laser seals off blood vessels to minimize bleeding. The heat from the laser also stimulates the body’s collagen-production response, which has a skin tightening effect. By targeting smaller areas a smoother, tighter, high definition contour can be achieved with fewer side effects than liposuction.

Liposuction FAQ

Is liposuction a good weight management strategy?

Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity, nor a shortcut to reaching your ideal weight. In fact, it is important that you give diet and exercise a chance before you consider the procedure. Overweight patients should be within 20 pounds of recommended weight.

What types of fat can liposuction effectively target?

Liposuction is ideal for localized areas of fat that never seem to shrink and seem immune to traditional lifestyle approaches. For example, a person may exercise regularly and lose weight through a balanced diet and still retain excess fat in the hips or thighs.

In addition to the hips and thighs, patients commonly seek reductions in the abdomen, buttocks, arms, neck or back. Men may also choose liposuction as a way to treat “male breasts.” Liposuction is sometimes even used to treat jowls and cheeks.

Some types of fat cannot be removed by liposuction. In many obese individuals, the abdominal fat that produces the unwanted overhanging belly profile surrounds internal organs. Because it is located below the muscle, it is not safe to remove this type of fat.

Does liposuction treat cellulite or stretch marks?

Liposuction is not a treatment for improving the appearance of skin. The elasticity of a patient’s skin is a key factor in how the skin will look after the procedure. If skin is elastic and muscle tone is good, the skin will conform well to the new body shape. With skin that has been stretched and is less elastic, folds of skin may be apparent after removal of fat.

Cellulite and stretch marks are also not likely to improve significantly, although there may be a slight smoothing of the area, depending on the firmness of your skin. A patient with realistic expectations will be pleased by the way the procedure can sculpt the body, restoring the attractive proportions of a fit and balanced profile.

Will the fat return?

If you change the behavior that led to obesity, you will not need to worry about those pockets of fat returning. The cells that were removed during liposuction are gone, and will never grow back. But if your weight begins to rise again, adjoining fat cells will expand to store the excess caloric intake. Regular exercise and eating nutritious foods in limited quantities are the best ways to preserve your new shape.

Is liposuction my only option?

Plastic surgery is a dynamic field, and new innovations continually expand the number of choices available to patients. When it comes to removing stubborn pockets of fat, there are several highly effective alternatives, such as SmartLipo and CoolSculpting.

SmartLipo uses laser-generated heat to liquify fat cells, making it easier to eliminate them. As its name suggests, CoolSculpting relies on the opposite end of the temperature spectrum, freezing cells in the flabby “pinchable” areas of body fat. These crystallized cells are then absorbed by the body over a period of weeks or months.

The pace of fat removal is one of the advantages CoolSculpting has over liposuction. The gradual reduction of fat in targeted areas allows your skin to progressively shrink to cover your new profile. And it also allows time for your body to produce more collagen, a process that is triggered by CoolSculpting’s freezing.
