Male Breast Reduction

MALE BREAST REDUCTION GREENWICH, CT

Male breast surgery is not asuncommon as most think. Gynecomastia, a medical condition that affects 40-60 percent of men, can only be treated through breast reduction surgery.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery Benefits

A man’s masculinity is often attributed to a chiseled, defined chest area. Men who suffer from enlarged breasts due to gynecomastia or other conditions can greatly benefit from breast reduction surgery (reduction mammoplasty), which will restore a more masculine appearance and a renewed sense of confidence. Male breast reduction is best for:

  • Men who enjoy overall good health
  • Men whose breast growth has stabilized
  • Men who cannot correct their condition through alternative treatments
  • Men who are bothered by enlarged breasts

Other options may include liposuction or Smartlipo. She will review the procedures in detail including cost, recovery time, medications, and follow-up visits. Male Breast Reduction Surgery Details

Dr. Margoles is highly skilled in breast reduction surgery for men and will take great care to address your specific needs.  The surgery will take approximately 2 hours using general anesthesia. You will be in the recovery room for 1 hour following surgery, after which you will be sent home. All patients must have a responsible adult with them to return home. It is also strongly advised that a responsible adult stay the night with you.

During the procedure, small incisions are made along the areola’s edge or under the breast to remove excess tissue. The skin is pulled over the redefined tissue and the areola is repositioned using sutures to close each incision. Sometimes liposuction alone will achieve the desired results.

Breast Lift FAQ

Typically, you can go back to work and resume light activities two to three days after your surgery. However, full recovery can take two to three months. However, this depends on a case-by-case basis. Dr. Margoles and her team will provide you with specific post-op instructions to ensure your body’s optimal response to the surgery and ongoing recovery.

While gynecomastia may return after surgery, it is not a common occurrence. Most patients enjoy long-lasting results that keep their newly acquired masculine physique intact. It is important that you follow a healthy lifestyle and maintain a stable weight after your surgery. This decreases the chances of your breast size growing past your comfort zone.

Gynecomastia is a major surgery that calls for optimal care after the procedure is complete. Typically, you must completely rest for the first two to three days, after which you can resume light activities. You also need to wear a supportive garment for the first two to three weeks after your surgery to minimize swelling and discomfort. During the recovery process, Dr. Margoles and her team will remain in contact with you to advise you on the ideal care measures according to your progress with the recovery.

Gynecomastia surgery is safe, with major side effects being an uncommon occurrence. Most patients who go through gynecomastia recover without any complications. The techniques used in the surgery put your safety and wellbeing front and center, while also focusing on delivering effective results. This makes sure that you can resolve your aesthetic concerns without putting your health on the line.

Gynecomastia by itself does not cause erectile dysfunction. But if your breasts are enlarged due to a hormonal imbalance, you may also face the problem of erectile dysfunction. This means that if you have both gynecomastia and erectile dysfunction, resolving one may not solve the other. You typically need separate treatment for both causes.

Although you will need to avoid most physical stress, walking is recommended as a practical way to reduce your risk of developing a blood clot. Walking and drinking plenty of fluids can also help reduce swelling of the breasts. And, when done with a friend, family member or furry companion, walking is always a great way to lift your spirits.

If you have gynecomastia as well as loose or sagging skin around the abdomen, you can combine both procedures. But to do so, you need to discuss your goals with a qualified surgeon first. Dr. Margoles can hold a detailed consultation to understand your aesthetic concerns about your physique and advise the best possible approach to resolve them for you.

After undergoing gynecomastia surgery, you need to wait for a few days before you can resume strenuous activities. Typically, you are advised to avoid chest exercises for at least three to four weeks after your surgery. You can get personalized advice about resuming exercise from Dr. Margoles and her team after your surgery.

The cost for male breast reduction surgery depends upon the extent of your procedure and your aesthetic goals. Factors that influence this cost include the type of technique that is suitable for you. After your detailed consultation, Dr. Margoles and her team will advise you the best possible treatment method as well as its associated costs.
