Facelift in Greenwich, CT & Westchester, NY
With age comes wisdom. But along with this insight, we may also find our skin begins to sag, adding additional years to our appearance. A facelift (also called a face lift or rhytidectomy) can help to erase some of those years, leaving you with a younger, more refreshed youthful appearance while maintaining the integrity of your natural facial contours. Facelift surgery is a surgical procedure designed to address facial aging, signs of aging, and facial sagging by tightening facial skin, repositioning facial tissues, and supporting underlying tissues for a more youthful appearance.
Known for carefully considering her patients’ aesthetic desires, Dr. Sandra Margoles never leaves a patient with that frozen or surprised look. Too often, we’ve all come to identify this appearance as the result of too much facial cosmetic surgery. Instead, you’ll enjoy a youthful, refreshed look. A facelift with Dr. Margoles will help enhance your natural beauty with little to no visible scarring. Facelift results can last for many years. To achieve the most desirable benefits, some facelift patients also choose to have a neck lift or eyelid surgery (eyelid lift) as part of their facial rejuvenation plan. For patients seeking facial rejuvenation surgery, combining procedures can enhance facial contours across the face and neck.

GREENWICH & Westchester FACELIFT FAQS
How long does a facelift procedure take?
A typical facelift procedure lasts between two to three hours. The duration may vary depending on the complexity of the individual case and whether additional procedures are performed simultaneously. If a neck lift or brow lift is included, surgery time may be longer.
What is the recovery time for a facelift?
Most patients are up and about within two days and look and feel much better within the first three weeks. Many return to work within 10 days. Full recovery, including the fading and flattening of scars, can take several months. Facelift recovery may also include using compression and keeping the head elevated to minimize swelling.
Are the results of a facelift permanent?
While a facelift can provide long-lasting results, it does not stop the aging process. The benefits of a facelift can last for many years, but factors such as gravity, lifestyle, and genetics will continue to affect your skin over time. Facial aging continues, but a facelift resets visible signs of aging like deep folds and sagging skin.
Will I have visible scars after a facelift?
Dr. Margoles takes great care to minimize scarring. Incisions are typically made in inconspicuous locations, such as the hairline and natural creases of the face. Any initial scarring can usually be concealed with makeup and will fade over time. In rare cases, permanent hair loss along incision lines can occur; your board certified surgeon will review risks and prevention strategies.
Is a facelift painful?
Patients are under anesthesia during cosmetic surgery procedures like facelifts and typically experience minimal pain afterward. Any discomfort can be managed with prescribed pain medications. Most patients report feeling tightness rather than pain.
Can a facelift surgery be combined with other procedures?
Yes, a face lift surgery is often combined with other procedures such as an eyelid surgery (eyelid lift), or brow lift to achieve comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Combining procedures can also be more cost-effective and convenient. Some patients also ask about laser treatments or skin quality improvements for sun damage and skin tone, or nonsurgical facelift options such as dermal fillers (liquid facelift) as maintenance.
How do I prepare for a facelift consultation?
Before your consultation, consider your aesthetic goals and any concerns you may have. Be prepared to discuss your medical history, including previous facial plastic surgery, medications, and lifestyle factors. Dr. Margoles will provide detailed information about the procedure, recovery, and expected outcomes. We’ll also discuss whether you’re a better fit for a surgical facelift or a nonsurgical facelift, based on your facial tissues, skin laxity, and goals.
What is the difference between a mini facelift and a traditional facelift?
A mini facelift focuses on mild to moderate facial sagging—often along the jawline—using shorter incisions and less extensive lifting. A traditional facelift/traditional facelift surgery addresses more significant sagging skin and deeper folds across the mid and lower face and neck. For some patients, a deep plane facelift may provide more thorough lifting by repositioning deeper tissues and deep facial tissues rather than only tightening superficial layers.
What is an SMAS facelift?
An SMAS facelift (superficial musculoaponeurotic system facelift) is a technique that lifts and supports deeper facial tissues for a natural, longer-lasting result. The surgeon lifts the SMAS layer and underlying tissues to restore facial contours while protecting facial expression.
Can fillers replace a facelift?
Some patients may benefit from a liquid facelift using dermal fillers for temporary volume and mild lifting. However, a liquid facelift does not remove excess skin, address deep wrinkles, or reposition deeper tissues the way facelift surgery can. A nonsurgical facelift can be helpful for early signs of aging, but it cannot replace invasive surgery when sagging skin and excess skin are significant.
