Arm Lift

Weight fluctuations and aging can diminish the shape and tone of your arms. An arm lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and loose skin from the upper arms. Also known as brachioplasty, this procedure can give your arms a more toned and contoured look.

Benefits of Arm Lift Surgery

The best candidates for an arm lift are healthy and have realistic expectations. If you are self-conscious about the appearance of your upper arms, you may be a candidate for cosmetic surgery.

An arm lift can treat:

  • Excess fat on the arm
  • Loose, sagging or excess skin
  • Skin dimpling

Arm lift surgery is often performed after major weight loss, when loose skin appears on many different areas of the body. In other cases, the surgery removes fat on the upper arms that is resistant to diet and exercise. After surgery, you will have slimmer arms and improved self-confidence.

Your Arm Lift with Dr. Margoles

An arm lift is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. We will tailor the surgical incision to meet your needs. Minor arm lifts require small incisions that can be concealed in the armpit. Arm lift procedures are often combined with other body enhancement procedures including liposuction and breast augmentation.

In most cases, incisions are placed in the inner part of the arm, extending from the armpit toward the elbow. After making the incision, Dr. Margoles removes excess fat and loose skin. The skin is then stretched into a tighter, firmer position and excess skin is trimmed away. All incisions will be secured with sutures.

What to Expect After Your Arm Lift

After surgery, bandages and compression garments are applied to minimize swelling. You will experience some bruising, swelling and discomfort for a couple of weeks. This can be managed with prescription medication.

Recovery times vary. In most cases, you should be able to resume normal activities in 7-10 days. At this point the stitches will also be removed. Strenuous activity should be avoided for a month or more.

You will have permanent scarring following an arm lift. Your scars will appear raised and pink or dark brown for the first several months of recovery. Over the course of 12-18 months, your scars will begin to gradually flatten and fade.
