Tummy Tuck in Fairfield County

Serving Stamford and Greenwich, CT

Considering a tummy tuck in Fairfield County? Abdominoplasty, more commonly referred to as a "tummy tuck," is a very popular midsection contouring procedure that is performed at Dr. Margoles' Fairfield County cosmetic surgery offices. More than likely you've noticed that pocket of fat on your belly that just won't cooperate with diet and exercise. Tummy tuck surgery helps smoothe out this area, sculpting your body to a desired appearance.

Benefits of Tummy Tuck Surgery

Almost anyone who is bothered by excess skin and tissue around the abdomen can benefit from tummy tuck. This procedure is designed to treat problem areas for patients. Tummy tucks not only remove fatty tissue but they also tighten the muscles in the abdomen resulting in a flatter appearing stomach.

A tummy tuck is best to treat:

  • Post-pregnancy belly
  • Stubborn midsection fat
  • Sagging due to aging
  • Stretching caused by significant weight fluctuations
  • Bariatric surgery patients

Patients who are unable to improve their abdominal area on their own, are usually the best candidates for a tummy tuck.

Your Tummy Tuck Surgery with Dr. Margoles

Tummy tucks are one of Fairfield County plastic surgeon Dr. Margoles specialties. Depending on your situation, surgery may last anywhere from 1-5 hours. If a tummy tuck alone cannot fully re-sculpt your protruding belly, Dr. Margoles may recommend that liposuction be performed alongside it.

Incisions are commonly made from hipbone to hipbone, following the line of your pelvic area. The navel may or may not be removed and repositioned after the removal of your unwanted fat. The muscles in your abdomen are tightened by pulling them together and stitched them into place. Your skin is then stretched down and excess skin is removed. Sutures will close the incision and surgical tape will be applied to the treated area.

What to Expect After Your Tummy Tuck Surgery

After surgery, you will notice a flatter, trimmer abdomen. Stiches will be removed in 5-7 days and although scars are permanent, they will fade with time. You can expect to resume normal activities anywhere between 2-4 weeks.

Abdominoplasty, more commonly referred to as "tummy tuck," is a very popular midsection contouring procedure that Dr. Margoles performs at her Greenwich, Conn., plastic surgery practice. More than likely you've noticed that pocket of fat on your belly that just won't cooperate with diet and exercise. Or if you’ve had children, you might have a protruding abdomen, thanks to abdominal muscles that have separated during pregnancy, and loose skin on your lower abdomen. Dr. Margoles can address all of these concerns with tummy tuck surgery, which helps smooth out this area, sculpting your body to a desired appearance.

Am I a Candidate for Tummy Tuck?

Almost anyone who is bothered by excess skin and tissue around the abdomen can benefit from tummy tuck. Tummy tuck surgery not only removes fatty tissue and surplus skin, but also tightens separated or weakened abdominal muscles to create a flatter, firmer stomach.

A tummy tuck will treat:

  • Post-pregnancy belly
  • Stubborn midsection fat
  • Sagging due to aging
  • Stretching caused by significant weight fluctuations
  • Post-bariatric surgery patients with loose skin

If you have been unable to tighten and tone your abdomen with diet and exercise, tummy tuck might be right for you. To qualify for surgery, you should be in good general health, not smoke and not have any chronic medical conditions that could increase your surgical risks. It is recommended that you postpone tummy tuck until you have finished having biological children, as future pregnancies could reverse the effects of surgery.

Your Tummy Tuck Surgery

Tummy tucks are one of Fairfield County plastic surgeon Dr. Margoles’ specialties. Depending on your unique treatment plan, surgery may last anywhere from one to five hours. If a tummy tuck alone cannot fully re-sculpt your protruding belly and provide the body contouring results you desire, Dr. Margoles may recommend that liposuction be incorporated into the same operation to treat other areas of surplus fat.

Incisions are commonly made from hipbone to hipbone, following the line of your pelvic area. An additional incision may be made around the navel, and the navel may be repositioned higher on the abdomen. The muscles in your abdomen are tightened by pulling them together and stitching them into place. Your skin is then re-draped over the newly contoured abdomen, and excess skin is removed. Sutures will close the incision, and surgical tape will be applied to the treated area. A compression garment may also be placed to support the healing tissues.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

After tummy tuck, bruising, swelling and soreness are normal. If you experience discomfort, take oral medication as prescribed by Dr. Margoles. Avoid bending, lifting and straining as your body heals from surgery, and keep your compression garment in place.

Attend your follow-up appointments as scheduled. Dr. Margoles will likely remove your stitches within five to seven days. She will give you instructions for gradually returning to your normal activities, going back to work and exercise. You can expect to resume normal activities anywhere between two and four weeks.

Tummy Tuck FAQs

Do I need liposuction or a tummy tuck?
That depends on your specific aesthetic concerns. Liposuction will only treat excess fat; it won’t have any effect on loose skin or the abdominal muscles. If you have excess fat, loose skin and separated/weakened abdominal muscles, abdominoplasty is likely the better choice for you. Dr. Margoles will share her professional recommendation during consultation.

Will tummy tuck help me lose weight?
Although tummy tuck will remove excess fat, it is not designed as a tool for weight loss. Suitable candidates should be at, or close to, their target weight. Gaining or losing weight after surgery can negatively affect the results.

What is a mini tummy tuck?
Mini tummy tuck is a variation of traditional tummy tuck that focuses on laxity and protrusion in the area below the navel. It involves a single incision made just above the pubic hairline. Through the incision, excess skin is removed, slack muscles are repaired and liposuction may be used for additional contouring.

How much does tummy tuck cost?
Tummy tuck fees vary by patient, according to the specific treatment plan. Dr. Margoles can provide a customized price quote after learning more about you and your needs.
