Your Procedure with Dr. Margoles
Blepharoplasty at our Greenwich or Stamford facilities typically takes 1-2 hours and is performed by making small incisions where loose skin and pockets of fat have collected. Dr. Margoles will discreetly place the incisions along the natural lines of your eyelids. Excess fat and skin will be removed and the incisions will be closed with very fine sutures.
What to Expect After Eyelid Surgery
After the surgery, Dr. Sandra Margoles will lubricate your eyes and may advise you to keep your head elevated for several days. Using a cold compress will help reduce any swelling or bruising. Expected recovery time is between 7-10 days following your blepharoplasty and you may need to refrain from wearing contact lenses during this period. You should be able to enjoy the results of your eyelift surgery for years to come.
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a procedure that refreshes the appearance of aging eyes and produces a more pleasant expression. Dr. Margoles is the eyelid surgeon Greenwich patients trust for beautiful and youthful-looking results. She is a perfectionist and understands that overworking an area as delicate as the eyelids can produce “frozen” or surprised-looking outcomes. Her meticulous technique yields subtle, yet attractive, results.
Am I a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
You may be a candidate for eyelid surgery if you have:
- Saggy skin on the upper lids (possibly obscuring the natural fold of the eyelid)
- Puffiness or “bags” below the eyes
- Stretched eyelid skin
- An unintentionally fatigued, angry or sad eye appearance
To be considered a strong candidate for eyelid surgery, you should be in good physical and psychological health, not smoke and not have any chronic eye or health conditions that could raise the surgical risks. If you suffer from hypothyroidism, Grave's disease, glaucoma or dry eye, you are encouraged to consult with your eye physician before pursuing plastic surgery.
If you have dark circles, wrinkles or sagging eyebrows, eyelid surgery is not for you. Dr. Margoles can review alternative treatment options better targeted to your cosmetic concerns.
Eyelid Surgery with Dr. Margoles
Blepharoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis at our Greenwich or Stamford facilities. Anesthesia is administered for your complete comfort. Surgery takes between one and two hours.
Dr. Margoles will begin by making small incisions along the natural lines of the upper and/or lower eyelids (this prevents visible scarring). Through the incisions, she will remove excess skin and fat and tighten the skin along the lids. She will redistribute fat as needed and correct muscle laxity. After making the needed surgical modifications, Dr. Margoles will close the incisions with very fine sutures.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery
After the surgery, Dr. Sandra Margoles will lubricate your eyes and may advise you to keep your head elevated for several days. Mild side effects such as bruising, swelling, tearing and light sensitivity are normal as the eyes heal. Using a cold compress will help reduce any swelling or bruising.
You are encouraged to refrain from any strenuous movement or vigorous activity, including bending, lifting and exercise, for several weeks. Dr. Margoles will provide detailed instructions for caring for the incisions, taking antibiotic medication and returning to the office for follow-up. The expected recovery time is between seven and 10 days.
Your Eyelid Surgery Results
You should see initial results almost immediately after surgery. The results will continue to improve as you heal and post-operative swelling resolves. Your eyelids will look rested, awake and pleasant. Your natural upper eyelid fold will look more defined, and you won’t have puffy under-eye bags. You should be able to enjoy the results of your eyelift surgery for years to come.
Eyelid Surgery FAQs
Can I have eyelid surgery if I have had LASIK?
Yes. Dr. Margoles recommends waiting at least six months after LASIK before having eyelid surgery. This ensures the surface of the eyes is at its peak condition. If you have questions, contact your LASIK surgeon or Dr. Margoles for more details.
Can I wear contact lenses after surgery?
You may need to refrain from wearing contact lenses during the initial recovery. Dr. Margoles will advise you as to when you can resume wearing your contacts.
Will I have visible scarring?
Thanks to Dr. Margoles’ strategic incision placement, you should have minimal post-operative scarring.
Can eyelid surgery be combined with another facial rejuvenation procedure?
Yes, eyelid surgery may be part of a comprehensive facial makeover. If you have developed skin laxity and signs of aging in another area of your face, Dr. Margoles can recommend a complementary procedure.
How much does eyelid surgery cost?
Costs vary by treatment plan, as certain elements (e.g., performing a combination procedure) can affect the fees. Dr. Margoles will provide more information about the cost of eyelid surgery at the time of consultation.
