Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)
Brow lift (sometimes called forehead lift) is a plastic surgery procedure to rejuvenate your facial appearance and minimize some of the signs of aging. During brow lift, Dr. Margoles will smooth lines and wrinkles across the forehead, elevate a drooping brow line and refresh the eye area, making you look younger and more animated.
Sandra Margoles, MD is a respected plastic surgeon who has many years of experience with brow lift and other facial rejuvenation procedures. She will ensure that your results look natural and beautiful, never frozen or surprised.
Using an endoscope, correction of a low-positioned or sagging brow may be made through incisions at the temples and in the scalp.
An endoscopic brow lift can smooth the forehead, raise the upper eyelids, and minimize the frown lines that come with aging.
The result of an endoscopic brow lift is a younger, more rested look.
Candidates for Brow Lift Surgery
Brow lift candidates are usually 40-60 years old and show signs of aging around the eyes. To be an ideal candidate, you should be in good health and free of any serious medical condition which could compromise the healing process. You should also have realistic expectations of surgery. Brow lift will not treat the skin of the upper/lower eyelids; if you'd like to address your lids, please ask Dr. Margoles about alternative options like blepharoplasty or a facelift.
Brow lift can treat:
- Furrowed lines above the nose
- Frown lines
- A low, heavy brow
Your Surgery with Dr. Margoles
If Dr. Margoles is performing a traditional brow lift, she will make an incision in a headphone-like pattern, starting at one ear and extending across the forehead and down to the other ear. Through the incision, she will modify the muscles of the forehead, raise the eyebrows and remove excess skin. The remaining skin will be re-draped more tightly across the forehead to smooth lines and wrinkles.
In some cases, Dr. Margoles performs brow lift endoscopically; this approach leaves less potential for scarring and has a quicker recovery period. If Dr. Margoles is performing an endoscopic brow lift, she will make several short incisions (less than an inch in length) along the temples and scalp. Through the incisions, she will insert a small camera device, which is connected to a monitor in the operating room. She is able to get a clear view via the monitor of the tissues and muscles underneath the skin as she makes the necessary modifications.
What to Expect after Surgery
You may have some numbness and temporary discomfort after surgery, but Dr. Margoles can prescribe pain medication if you need it. You should keep your head elevated for two to three days after surgery to minimize swelling. You also need to refrain from any bending, lifting, straining or vigorous exercise which could interfere with your healing. You should be able to return to work within a week to 10 days. Dr. Margoles will check the progress of your healing and advise when it is safe to start exercising again.
It's important to follow all of Dr. Margoles' pre- and post-operative instructions in order to minimize your risk of complications and speed up your recovery.
