Want to reduce your oversized breasts in Fairfield County? Dr. Sandra Margoles will guide you through the procedure and provide recommendations during your consultation to decide how to improve your bust.

What is Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast reduction, technically known as reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure for both men and women who suffer from the weight of excessively large breasts. This procedure removes fat tissue from the breast making them smaller, lighter and firmer. The end goal to is to give the patient an outcome that is not only proportionate to their body size, but also to relieve them of pain caused by the gravitational pull of their breasts.

Benefits

The benefit of cosmetic improvements due to breast reduction surgery falls second to the physical relief of pain that patient's experience. The restriction of activities caused by large breasts has a psychological impact and with the reduction of breast size many patients can resume these activities.

Breast reduction surgery indications are:

  • Extremely large in size
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Skin infections

Most breast reduction surgeries in Fairfield County are performed on patients who have reached full development. Special exceptions can be considered if the patient's large breasts are causing serious physical discomfort.

Your Surgery with Dr. Margoles

Patients need to be aware that breast reduction surgery does leave scarring at the incision areas extending out and around the areola. There are various techniques that can be used to reduce the amount of incisions, but if there is an excessive amount of fat and skin that need to be removed scars will be inevitable. Occasionally, when only fat removal is necessary, liposuction can be an alternative solution, leaving minimal scarring.

Recovery

After your surgery, surgical bandages will be applied to the treated area.  Bandages will be removed in 1-2 days following surgery though you may need to wear a support bra for several weeks after. Some discomfort is typical but can be controlled with medication. Your sutures will be removed in 1-3 weeks after the procedure and depending on your healing time. Over the next six weeks or so, scarring will fade but not completely disappear.
